How to Safely Bleach

Whether you choose to use Cloralen or Clorox bleach, it’s important to know how to safely use the product. There are many ways that users abuse bleach and end up feeling sick or not obtaining the desired cleaning effect from the chemical. Here at the Cleaning Team King, we’ve put together five ways on how you can safely use bleach.

  1. Use the Recommended Amount

Labels are your best friend. Always check the back of the bottle for the recommended amount of bleach you should use for cleaning. If your specific cleaning need is not listed on the bottle, you can check directly on the manufacturer’s website for more instructions.

  1. Dilute the Bleach before Using

If the smell of bleach is overwhelming to you, or you don’t want to use the full amount to disinfect, you can easily dilute bleach before using it. The general ratio is 1 gallon of water to 1/3 cup of bleach in room temperature or cold water. Make sure to use caution when mixing this solution together so that you don’t accidentally spill bleach on yourself.

  1. Refrain from Inhaling Bleach

Bleach can be very dangerous for your lungs, skin and eyes as it is an irritant/corrosive product. Make sure that you take extra precaution to protect yourself by keeping open ventilation, avoiding the room where you use the product until the fumes clears out, wear a mask and always use a pair of rubber gloves. If you do find yourself exposed to Bleach, make sure to wash it off immediately and leave the area to breathe fresh air.

  1. Don’t Mix Other Cleaners with Bleach

Bleach can become very toxic if you mix it with ammonia. These fumes can be very dangerous to your lungs and cause severe side effects such as pneumonia. Bleach should really only be diluted with water. Avoid mixing with alcohol or vinegar. Bleach should not be used with other cleaners at the same time to avoid any negative side effects.

  1. Clean Dirt Before using Bleach

Many people commonly mistake bleach for being a cleaner. Bleach is actually a disinfectant. While bleach will help kill bacteria and harmful germs, it will not be as effective if it is around dirt. It’s important that you make sure to first thoroughly wipe down all surfaces before using bleach to disinfect.

Customer Reviews: Cloralen

Most Positive

“Cloralen Platinum Bleach Gel is a great product in my opinion. It’s strong and a powerful bleaching agent without being harsh on clothing or surfaces. I use it in my white laundry to keep them bright and clean and I also like it for general cleaning on any bleach safe surface. I use it for cleaning wooden decks, concrete porches with my power washer. I mop and clean my bath and kitchen with it and I also use it in my dishwasher for stained plastic dishes. You know the orange stained plastic ware from microwaving tomato sauce in plastic? Well, Clorlen removes that. This product saved us money because we didn’t have to paint everything again because the walls and ceilings looked fresh and clean after being washed with this product. I also keep a bottle near the kitchen sink to bleach coffee cups and tea glasses that are stained and remove the stain easily. I won’t be without it since it cleans so well. I am sure you will love it too.” – Meezer
